Here is a summary of my Enterprise project which we had to complete for Mr.Molamphy:
TFT ENTERPRISES – Jack Kelly
Our enterprise project was called TFT (Turf, Firelogs, Timber) Enterprises which involved us selling these fuel products. We sourced all the supplies ourselves, (Turf from our bogs, Firelogs through a Firelog Maker purchased online and Timber cut down from our own trees.)
We got our idea from seeing people sell fuel in the town square in Portumna and we heard the prices people were selling their fuel at so we decided to sell it cheaper in order to make quick, easy sales while still getting a good price. We did research on the cost/prices of other people's turf/timber in order to find an appropriate price. We settled on €3.50 for a bag of turf, €5 for a bag of timber, €3 for 3 firelogs and we also made discounted offers for those buying in bulk. After spending several weekends gathering and bagging all of our products into 25kg bags (the bags were sourced free of charge from our own farms. The bags were the perfect size for the type of selling we were doing), we began to promote our project. First, we made high quality, colourful posters in order to grasp the target market's attention. These posters were put up in shops, schools and all around our respective areas. We also did several announcements and talking to promote the product through word of mouth. As well as offering home deliveries, we sold the majority of our stock at the local 'Daybreak' store in town. Daybreak granted us permission to sell our products outside the store after receiving our formal letter asking for permission. The location was perfect as we got customers passing through to get diesel/petrol, passing trade and also local people who wanted to support a school
cause. This target market proved very successful. Even though we had tough competitors in town such as SuperValu and Aldi, we still managed to compete with them by selling out on almost every day we attempted to sell.
Overall, we got on great as a group. We worked well as a team, dividing all of the work up equally into our own strengths and never had any issues. Other than a few difficulties such as a place to sell/source/cutting the timber etc., we had no difficulties while working as a team. We're all good friends and this made it easy to work together. We developed countless new skills from this new venture. I myself really developed new skills that I never knew I possessed such as being initiative, selling and I.T skills. I really enjoyed doing the project as it was very fun and a great learning experience. We also made great profits which meant we got a lot of money for ourselves at the end of the project, which was our main aim at the start.
